San Diego Museum of Art was built in 1926. Later, constructors resold its ownership to the government. The museum is located in Balboa Park. The entire construction was designed by the famous architect William Templeton Johnson. The annual business budget contains approximately 6 million American dollars.

San Diego Natural History Museum

The San Diego Natural History Museum was built in 1874 and is Southern California’s natural institution which has the longest history. At the beginning of its establishment, the museum was the main natural and cultural source, with a natural resource information service for the people who are fond of this. San Diego Old Globe Theatre

The San Diego Old Globe Theatre was built in 1935 and is a part of the California Pacific International Exposition. During the exposition, a 50-minute lasting Shakespeare play is being held here. After the exposition, the theatre gradually became well-known and since 1949 it launched a summer Shakespeare event. In the year 1978, it was destroyed by a large fire, but thanks to community fund-raising activities, the theatre was rebuilt afterwards. In the reconstruction process, a temporary outdoor theatre was built. Today the whole theatre is known as the Simon Edison Centre for Performing Arts.

San Diego Repertory Theatre

In 1975, the early San Diego Repertory Theatre was established by Sam Woodhouse, Christopher R, John Lee and some other theatre-lovers. They met at an old attic in San Diego in order to form a play of a street theatre group, the members including a group of talented authors, directors and film producers. In 1976, Sam Woodhouse and Douglas Jacobs performed 19 San Diego premiers and 12 West Coast premiers in the Six Avenue theatre company. In 1986, the San Diego Repertory Theatre moved to the Horton Plaza Theatre. At the same time it provided service for other arts and community organizations. Many famous artists like John Lennon, Anders Stone and Charlie Miller have all performed here and there is a regular cooperation between the Lyceum Gallery and Theatre. Such artistic cooperation has brought San Diego a more active art atmosphere.

San Diego La Jolla Playhouse

The San Diego La Jolla Playhouse was established by Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire and Mel Ferrer in 1947. In 1983 it was led by Des McAnuff, including the 1993 United States Tony Award for being an outstanding regional theatre. La Jolla Playhouse provides many opportunities for education to children, youth and adults who love theatre, it namely includes the theatre stage and also behind-the-scenes. In addition, the La Jolla Playhouse offers a number of courses in the summer, including young actor seminars, appreciation of popular music, performance courses and more.

San Diego Opera
